May 2015 Reads
May was a pretty solid reading month for me, as I really enjoyed all of the books that I read. While I only managed to get through six, two of them are from the A Song of Ice and Fire series, so I feel like those should count for more! Let's get right into it.
The first book I read last month was Cinder by Marissa Meyer. This Cinderella retelling was a lot of fun and I blasted through it. Since I wrote a full review here, I won't go into detail, but I definitely recommend checking this book out if you like YA and fairytale retellings. I rated this 4 out of 5 stars.
Whilst reading Cinder, I also started listening to the audiobook of Old Man’s War by John Scalzi. This is the first book in the Old Man's War series. I also already reviewed this book here, but I loved this one! It was everything that I was looking for in previous Scalzi books that I had read. This one got a 5 out of 5 stars from me.
After those two, I decided it was FINALLY time for me to continue on with the A Song of Ice and Fire series. Watching season 5 of show definitely helped to motivate me to pick up A Clash of Kings and I loved being back in this world that George R.R. Martin has created. I'm definitely on the ASoIaF train and not stopping until I catch up with book #5. While I really enjoyed book #2, it was not quite as great as A Game of Thrones, so I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. See my reviews of both here.
After finishing up A Clash of Kings, I wanted to pick up a light and quick read, so I turned to one of my bookclub picks, Stardust. This was everything that I hoped it would be and I can't wait to read more by Neil Gaiman. Stardust is an adult fairy tale that is really imaginative and heartwarming. I loved every word! I gave this 5 out of 5 stars and will be writing a full review soon!
Since it had been a while since reading Child 44, I thought it was time for me to pick up The Secret Speech. As you may recall from my review of Child 44, I loved the first book and was on the edge of my seat for most of it. I was hopeful that this would be similar. While it was not as intense as Child 44, it had some very stressful moments. Since I was not as gripped with the political drama as I was with the murder mystery aspects of the first novel, I ended up giving this 4 out of 5 stars. I will also be posting a review of this soon.
I saved the best for last - A Storm of Swords by the genius, George R.R. Martin!! Holy crap you guys, this was the highlight of the month. What an amazing ride! Obviously, I loved this book and so far it is best fantasy book I've ever read, and probably one of the best ones I've read, period. Check out my full rave review here, but suffice to say LOVED IT and gave this 5 huge stars out of 5.
And that's everything that I read in May! What did you read last month and what was your favorite?
